Monica's Musings

From A Mom’s Perspective

I must be getting older (duh). When I get an invite to a friends’ 50th Birthday Party bash, I think how young they are to be “only” turning 50.

What are these rights of passage that we go through in life?

We are born, go through school, graduations, marriage, then children, then the many milestones in your child’s life. My list is getting long. That’s a good thing though, because it means I am still here to be able to experience these precious moments. I want to tell my kids what to do all the time. I’ve made that mistake so many times.  But I think, why should they have to repeat the same mistakes over, when I can spare them the heartache? Because it doesn’t work that way. They have to make their own choices and either suffer the consequences or reap the reward to learn something from the experience.

Now I have a granddaughter who is 3. I’m watching her parents do what I did with my now older eyes. It’s incredibly interesting. Our kids play the mental tapes that have been lodged into their heads by us, their parents, as they step into Mommy and Daddy roles.

I wonder what the future has to hold. How will these growing young adults turn out?  I guess I have to stay tuned, and live a lot longer!! I’m hanging on for the fun ride ahead.
